I am a Librarian
Of course I know a lot about books, but I also have to be good at technology and the Internet, because that’s where information is these days. I enjoy helping our patrons use the library, but there are days I feel more like a social worker, a babysitter, a cop, or a concierge. In our school or community library, funding is always a problem. And there's always the bureaucracy...
But I love helping people find that one book or article they really need so they can finish a project or paper. I like being creative in developing programs for the library.
How can Sherlock Holmes help get my patrons interested in my library?
As a librarian, you're like The Great Detective yourself sometimes. Sherlock Holmes fans are an interesting group. You might enjoy meeting some Sherlockians. This site will show you where there are active Sherlock Holmes societies in the U.S.
And in case anyone asks, there are several libraries with special collections devoted to Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes. In fact, a brochure for an exhibition on Sherlock Holmes and the Law even suggested that Holmes could have been a "born librarian."
